Spring photos
Here is an ongoing collection of pictures taken in early March and continuing through the spring. As you can see the fields greened up long before most front lawns.
Whitie
This here is Whitie, posing with Chase and JT (the youngest). As you can see she is very friendly and curious. While taking the pictures today she followed us around and tried to direct all the shots.

Whitie and Chase
Whitie again demanding a scratch and rub from Chase.
|
One of our back fields
Many of our fields have trees for shade.
|
One more bite!
"One more bite mom". When rounding them up for milking suddenly they all need to eat with a feverish speed. Don't worry girls, you will be back out on the pasture in an hour.
|
Early March
The ladies are enjoying the first of the new spring grasses. The milk will have a whole new taste now as they rotate pastures.
|
Blue
Cows are not just back and white, but also can be blue!
|
Red Rova
Cows also can be red.
|
Scratch me right here
Sunmaid is a big pet. She loves to be rubbed and scratched.
Cows love to have their ears and throats scratched the most.
|
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a human??
|
You taste funny
|
EWWWW!
Yuck, humans taste awful!
Did you know that cows have very rough tongues? Cows do not bite the blades, they use their very agile tongues to rip them. Their teeth are used to grind and chew.
|
|
Lets see how your pants taste.
Cows are very curious animals. They must smell and taste everything.
|
Scratch me some more
Bob loves to love on the cows and they love to love us back. Because most of our calves are born and raised on the farm they have little fear of people. Some of they are even halter trained. Happy cows make more milk, its a proven fact.
|
More to the left
Cows are very social creatures and can often be seen licking and rubbing on each other to satisfy an itch. But nothing satisfies like your favorite human.
|
Mid April
Its mid April and the grasses are growing strong. The milk has taken on a new and perhaps better taste because of all the extra nutrients from the grass. Spring grasses are much higher in beta-carotene and Omega-3's thus the more golden hue to the milk.

View from the lane
As you can see there is a lot of land for a few cows. It takes several acres to support 1 cow.

Looking West

Turnips
Turnips are one of the first grasses in spring. Technically they are a left over from Fall. Cows like the turnip greens which are especially high in Vitamin A.
|
Rye grass
Young rye grass is a nutritional powerhouse, packed with essential vitamins and minerals, amino acids, active enzymes for both the cows and the consumer.
